Dr. Yusuf completed his graduate degrees in Sport Psychology (M.Ed.) and Leadership & Evaluation (Ph.D.) from the University of Virginia. After establishing his private consulting practice, which focused on working with athletes, Dr. Yusuf relocated to Tampa, Florida to consult in the luxury marine industry. Although his top priority was coaching leadership skills amongst upper management, he also contributed to marketing, promotions and operations (manufacturing) efforts. Over the next several years, Dr. Yusuf would grow his business portfolio while adding a wider range of athletics and teaching for the USF Business School.
In 2011 Dr. Yusuf was named the in-house sport psychologist for the USF Athletic Department. While there, he worked with athletes and coaches representing 15 different teams. Highlights included numerous conference championships, a softball World Series appearance, and seeing multiple players achieve success at the professional level.
In 2014, the USF Health Department of Graduate Medical Education (GME) asked Dr. Yusuf to run a pilot study to determine whether his performance coaching could benefit a medical training program. Embedded into the Department of Neurosurgery, Dr. Yusuf lived the life of a neurosurgeon for three months by taking call, attending conferences, observing in the OR and clinics—all in an effort to assess the Department. After producing his findings and recommendations, the Chairman tasked Dr. Yusuf with implementing the changes to improve their overall culture. Quantified successes led to USF Health creating a faculty position for Dr. Yusuf where he currently serves as the Director of Physician Development and Chief Cultural Officer for Clinical Affairs.
